WELCOME TO THE BEAR
THEN... it was 1590. Elizabeth I was Queen of England. The Welsh/English border was a wild place, with many dangers for travellers. Coaches pulled up at The Bear in Hay on their way from Hereford to Brecon. Once the horses were stabled for the night travellers warmed themselves before a great log fire, and sampled the local ale and victuals…
AND NOW... the wonders of the car, paved roads, aviation, mains water, electricity, central heating and the internet have made it easier to get to The Bear – and a lot more comfortable.
The Bear is no longer a coaching inn or a pub but still provides a night’s rest for travellers and sustenance the following morning. And there is still a historic feel to the house which is protected as a Listed Building.
Sue and Jon, your hosts at The Bear, are keen travellers themselves and enjoy sharing their home with guests from around the world.
